Of my 60+ facebook friends just 4 have and use their google-account regulary. Maybe more of them have one, but most people dont even know they have one and never look into gmail.

So – from my point of view – no danger for facebook.

Not so long ago we had the European Soccer Championship here in Vienna. They had several public viewing areas. So a lot of roads were closed which caused traffic-jams anywhere else.

Also a lot of clubs, coffeeshops and bars put up TV’s everywhere so it was impossible to have a decent conversation in most places. And most of them tried to make a quick buck too.

So unless you are in some kind of gastronomy related business where you might get some overtime or dips, you as an average citizen will just be allowed to proudly handle the problems caused by an event like that.

I agree with you 100% that cropping is an essential part of composition.

That is why I allways ask where and how a picture is to be used and how much room there is. Imidiatly asking for the aspect-ratio is just to much for most people. And then I do the crop myself.

Which leads to the fact that I’m quite happy with todays 15+MP cameras which allow me to take the frame a little bit larger and still have enough meat for a not so obvious crop.

Die Buchstabiererei ist sowieso müsig, da jeder der sich den Podcast anhört Eure Namen im Feld für den Interpreten ablesen kann. Und wer nicht lesen kann, dem würde langsames Buchstabieren auch nicht helfen.

Yes – and it is allways connected to my camera. For one I shoot 70% of my pictures in portrait and second I am using eneloops.

Hmm, the last 300 pics I took with 500 and 1000mm while hunting the moon. Before that I took about 80 with a 100mm fixed lens. I think it really depends on what you expect and if you are expected by your models. Shooting a portrait with 85mm takes you quite close to the model. Last summer I shot a lot of kids with 200-300mm which put enough distance between them and my camera so they didn’t realize me taking pictures.

The 85mm is really nice if both sides of the lens know whats happening.

To be honest – all of them. I am running my own mail-server with my own domains and usualy access my mail with mulberry or thunderbird when I’m on one of my own machines. I also have Squirrelmail installed on the server to access it from other machines for temporary access. I also have accounts at gmail, yahoo and some others but I use them only for what I call owner-related stuff. Picassa and Blogger go to gmail (all owned by google), Flickr goes to Yahoo. And I use them for testing purposes as an IT-pro.

Sounds a little awkward, but I dont trust either google nor yahoo far enough to give them controll over my whole email-traffic. I also create a new unique address on my own server for every service I register with. If the service starts spamming or sells the address to an advertiser, I can simply remove it later.

Ich habe mit Bändern an sich auch gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Mein Problem sind die Laufwerke. Mit – genauer gesagt meinen Kunden – ist es schon mehrmals passiert, daß gerade dann wenn man ein Restore gebraucht hätte, dann das Bandlaufwerk seinen Geist aufgegeben hatte. In einem Fall war dann nicht einmal mehr ein Ersatzgerät aufzutreiben und da war dann wirklich Feuer am Dach.

Angesichts dieser Probleme habe ich mich vor etwa zwei Jahren umgesehen welche Alternativen es gibt und bin bei Bacula gelandet. Das Ding kann auf alles mögliche sichern, wird mit einem Text-Editor konfiguriert und bietet Clients für alle wichtigen Betriebssysteme. Man kann unterschiedliche Sicherung-Profile für verschiedene Arten von Clients (Arbeitsplätze, Datenbank-Server, Exchange-Igits, etc.) definieren und im Zweifelsfall auch wenn einem die Bacula Installation abhanden kommt, alleine aus den Sicherungen “zu Fuß” die Daten wiederherstellen.

Und es ist ein freies OpenSource Projekt. Man braucht zwar ein wenig bis man sich eingearbeitet hat, aber wenn die Grundinstallation läuft ist es ein Klacks weitere Clients bzw. Ziele einzubinden. Ich kann es nur empfehlen und es kann auch mit Bandlaufwerken umgehen.

Die einzig sinnvolle Form!

Nur in einem solchen Sauhaufen kann man schnell und problemlos. also ohne Seitenschneider für Kabelbinder und bei Identifikationsversuchen abgebrochene Fingernägel, herausfinden wo eine der Strippen hinführt. Einfach am Kabel zupfen und dort wo sich was bewegt geht es weiter.

Über so etwas regen sich nur Leute auf, die noch nie selbst in einem “aufgeräumten” Schrank ein Kabel tauschen oder einen Fehler suchen mußten. Die offensichtliche Ordnung in solchen Schränken verbirgt nämlich nur das festgebundene, eingeklemmte, unbewegliche Chaos in den “ordentlich verlegten” Strippenbündeln.

Ein angenehmer Nebeneffekt ist, daß man in so einem Chaos immer ein frei fliegendes Kabel findet, wenn man einmal dringend eines braucht. Und letztendlich lautet das Credo der Datenschleuder des CCC nicht umsonst: “Kabelsalat ist gesund!”

In the moment I’m hacking this in every update, but it gets boring.
